What a fantastic trip it was! We were gone for 10 days and packed a lot in.
My cousin married his love in a beautiful ceremony and let me tell you, the Italians know how to do it right! Man oh man, the food, the dancing....the food...it was just absolutely massive! It was so good to see my Nanny and family.
I did make it to the mecca...Yankee stadium baby! It was a cold, rainy night but not too bad as to shut the game down (the next night they did however so we lucked out). I'm sorry to report, and all you haters out there will like this, but the Yanks did give it up to the Mariners. It's ok, I got on the jumbotron (a first for me) and felt like a million bucks surrounded by New Yorkers and Yankee fans alike. AMAZING NIGHT!
We went into Brooklyn and walked the Brooklyn Bridge which was so cool. I did it with a pretzel in hand too, how can you get any more New York than that!?!?
About a month before we left I went onto Dave Letterman's site to try and score tix. No luck...until we got a call while we were in NY. They asked if we could make it the next day for a taping. We had front row seats and Kiefer Sutherland was the guest. Dave was so skinny! He was cool and came out and talked and joked with us before the taping.
Fire Island was a stop I just had to show Lelani. I had such fond childhood memories of that place. We hiked from Robert Moses to Fire Island, passing the beautiful lighthouse. We went to check out my Dad's childhood beach house and the owners were on their front porch working on their bicycles. They invited us in for a tour and a cold drink. And New Yorkers get a bad rap?!?! I really don't get it, they are the NICEST people in the world. No matter if we were on the subway or the corner of Broadway, people were smiling and sweet.
I gained 5 pounds. 5 pounds! But it was worth it. Pizza, bagels, chinese food, Carvel, Katz Deli, Italian cookies, more Carvel, more cookies, more bagels. I'd be a million pounds if I lived there!
New York, you'll always have my heart. Thank you for a wonderful trip!
