Well it has been way too long and I need to finish my series of my TOAL (Trip Of A Lifetime). Our last port before heading back to Barcelona was Croatia. We had a day of rest between Venice and Croatia so I was ready to roll when we ported in.
We took a bus to old town which is behind the walls. It was a very, very hot day and we decided to jump on a glass bottom boat ride to escape the hot sun. The clear teal water, breeze and gorgeous view of Dubrovnik from the sea was perfect. "Beaches" on big rocks landscaped the town with visitors and locals jumping in again and again.
Wandering through the streets was just surreal. Churches nestled in little nooks, cats (again with the random cats) and shops everywhere. Narrow cobblestone streets with windows showed life. A million miles away from home I wondered how a typical Croatian spent their days. I bought a moonstone necklace from some chick on the street and this was the only port that did not use the Euro. Croatia's currency is the Kronor but they gladly accepted my Euros.
It's been a little over 2 months since my European TOAL. I'm grateful for having had the chance to go and finally crossing the pond. The memories I have with my family will last a lifetime and I kept a journal with tidbits and stories from each port to treasure.
