Kerrie's Blog: Venice

Venice

There's a beautiful place on Earth they call Venice.  I've never seen anything like it in my life and probably never will again.  What a fantastic day we had.  Porting into Venice was a treat all in itself as we were able to see the city from above, (our ship was quite massive....I don't think King Kong could've missed us).  This little piece of heaven is made up of 118 individual islands connected by tiny little bridges.  Have you seen The Tourist with Angelina Jolie and my king Johnny Depp?  It looks just like this movie, no joke.

We took a guided tour of Doge's Palace where Casanova was once imprisoned and escaped.  They'd put the really bad criminals on the bottom floor cells as they would flood.  After the tour and hanging in St. Mark's Square we headed aimlessly for the Realto.

Ok, seeing the first canal with gondolas floating along steered by dudes in striped shirts and hats made time stand still.  It was the most beautiful, serene, lovely views.  It didn't stink at all and the water was green.  We crossed bridges and shopped a bit, had Italian cookies and I found a desperately needed Coke Zero.  Water taxis were all over and we hopped on one for a ride.  Such an absolutely amazing place.

Venice and Florence had to be my most favorite ports.  I would love to visit Venice again one day.

Next up:  Dubrovnik, Croatia

Hi Kerrie - What a great trip - Venice and then Dubrovnik! We've been to Venice twice, both times for a week during off-season, and loved it, and Dubrovnik is a jewel of a town. Have fun!

When we went to Italy, we expanded Venice from 1 day to 4 days, against the advice from everyone that we would get bored. We did NOT get bored. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Kerrie, I never knew this, "118 individual islands connected by tiny little bridges" and I recently saw The Tourist (Not bad at all and had a bit of a surprise ending). Johnny Depp

It sounds like an exciting place to visit,
but, would you want to live there?

Best wishes always and Johnny says, "Hi!".

Kerrie...

What a wonderful place to visit. You read about it, see it in movies, but to actually have been there in person must be awesome!

Oh Venice is so cool.  I loved it.  You're right - it's so unique and so beautiful.  Watch out for the pigeon poop, though.

Venice is a beautiful place.  I was there for a several days a few years ago.  The gelato is awesome too if you haven't had it yet.

Those are astonishing pictures of one of my favorite places, Kerrie.  I've never been there.  All of the places you are traveling to are so wonderful.  I'm envious.  My daughter just flew in from Madrid.  She had been to Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.

I have so many pics but didn't want to overload.  Doge's Palace was gorgeous and I recommend the guided tour to hear all the juicy stuff.

My favorite place in the world. Mom and I go every couple years or so and stay for 2 weeks. In May we will only have a couple of days there before our cruise which heads out from there. I love to sit in the sun and watch the cruise ships leave in the evening.
