Kerrie's Blog: Wordless Wednesday - Alcatraz

Wordless Wednesday - Alcatraz

I took this pic earlier this year when we visited SF.  Going again this weekend and hoping to catch the spooky Alcatraz tour....seems appropriate for this time of year.  Anyone done it?

I have not been to Alcatraz, but the tour sounds like a great time.  Take pictures and share them with us, please.

Kerrie, great photo of Alcatrez.  I had no idea they do a scary Alcatrez tour, how fun!  I hope you post details.  Have fun!  --Krystal

Kerrie,

I have taken the tour and it is awesome. It was a January and it was rainy and foggy and dark I can't think of a better ambiance for that tour? Have fun in SF this week-end and take pictures.

I did a tour years ago and it was fascinating - enjoy!

I have not gone, but I heard you can actually go into one of the cells.  Don't forget warm clothes and a visit to Ghirardelli!!

Fabulous photo - I was in SF for the first time a few years ago, and could not get my group to agree to Alcatraz. Would love to! Enjoy, and give us an update when you get back; I've heard the NPS has some plans for Alcatraz...

Kerrie, that's sounds like fun.  I've never been, but I bet there really are a few ghosts hanging around there.  Alcatraz is my other "Rock".  If walls could talk.

A place of legends . . . what an amazing picture.  It is so beautiful in its own haunting way.  Sounds like an ADVENTURE!

It sure shows a different side to this illustrious monument. A much kinder, gentler feel to it than most would think, with the sailboat going gently by. Sounds like the spooky tour will be fun--do you scare easily?

GREAT photo, Kerrie.  The closest I have been to Alcatraz is the movie "Escape from Alcatraz".... I guess that doesn't really count, huh? ;)

Kerrie,  This sounds like a howling good time.  I bet there are some ghosts hanging out at Alcatraz.

Kerrie, you have a rowboat, a sailboat and a big cruiser in that shot.  Fun.  I hope you really have a great time, and remember to share your photos with us!

Gosh! I bet those walls could certainly tell some good stories.

As a kid, I believe taht I was there, but I don't remember anything.  It'd be fun to see it again.

What a beautiful picture, I've never been to Alcatraz, hope you're able to get in on the tour. Please blog about it if you do, I'd love to hear what it's like.

Nope, but it sounds like something I would like.  My favorite "tour" ever was the New Orleans haunted house tour.

Being a former corrections office, I have always been interested in that place.

Kerrie - I have a dirty little secret.  Although I have lived in Sacramento nearly all my life, and am within 90 miles of San Francisco, I have never been to Alcatraz.  I have seen it plenty of times from Fisherman's Wharf and other areas around the City, but haven't visited the island up close and personal.  I need to fix that one of these days!  Neat photo!

Hi Kerrie,

May be during your visit you can make sure some of the recent spammers are locked up in some of the very deepest and darkest cells and throw away the keys.... (hey this could be a great contest...... "If you could lock up some one who would it be" ;)

Have pfunn

Sadly, Kerrie, I'm a born and raised Californian and have never been to Alcatraz.  I've been close to it on a boat but never touched foot on it!  Have a great time!  Hope you get some good weather!!

I took the tour a million years ago when the wheel was still square, and sliced bread was just a thought. It was really an interesting tour full of great history and sights. Enjoy it Kerrie!

Kerrie, what a great photo, and doing a Halloween visit will be a bit spooky.   As many times as I have visited SF, never taken that tour!    I think the NAR convention will be there in 2013, and I will be attending that one!

LOVE Alcatraz, I remember it was kind of spooky walking in those empty jail cells! The island is also full of pelicans hanging around the trees. HAVE A GREAT TIME going over there!

Kerrie, that is one of the best tours in the city, lived there for a long time, great tour but bring a jacket that ferry ride can be cold, cold cold

Oh yes Kerrie. 30 minutes from me. Took a school field trip there growing up. Just a bit better than "Scared Straight" :) It is a great tour with great views.

Too bad that the beautiful island was ever used for a prison.........it would have been a great place for something else............

It was a great experience to visit, see that families (the guards and staff) grew up there - the hardships and the interesting people.  What a piece of history.   It is not a beautiful Island....It is the most windy, cold, unfriendly place - a true horror show.   It was a great place for a prison.   No wonder nobody was ever confirmed ESCAPED.
