Kerrie's Blog: Wordless Wednesday - Leavenworth

Wordless Wednesday - Leavenworth

This past weekend we went to Leavenworth, WA for their Tree Lighting Ceremony.  It was freezing but so pretty.  Leavenworth is an old miner's town that was converted into a Bavarian Village back in the 60's.

That look so cool. Our city tree lighting ceremony was postponed due to bad weather and we missed it. :( Have a Merry Christmas.

Kerrie,

When I saw the title I thought you were talking about the other Leavenworth...the Kansas Maximum Security prison.

That's a heck of a light display.

Kerrie- Isn't it wonderful to see everyone out even in the freezing weather!  If that doesn't get you in the spirit nothing will.

Very festive indeed.  There's no better way to get in the holiday mood than to attend an outdoor tree lighting ceremony with a crowd of people in winter's chilly air.

Kerrie...

We have a town here in the North Georgia Mountains named "Helen" that was converted into a Bavarian style village in the 60's too! It's still a very popular tourist spot.

Richard - Would you bail me out?

Kristi - It was packed!  I've never seen this town like that before.

Frank & Karen - That vid brings a smile to my face each time I watch.  lol

Kathy - That and a hot Starbucks!

Norma - My toes were frozen!

Richard - Oooh I bet it's the same.  I'm off to Google it now.

Looks like the entire county showed up for the lighting.  That makes it fun when people show up.

Kerrie - I love Leavenworth, and I have a funny story to tell.  In the 1990s, I made a trip to Seattle to meet my son, who was serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier Kittyhawk.  The Kittyhawk was visiting your city for Sea Fair.  We had a free day, and wondered what we might do with it.  When I went down to the hotel lobby, there was a brochure about Leavenworth.  There was this tiny postage stamped size map, which made it look like Leavenworth would only be about a half hour away.  It showed the highway out of Seattle to Leavenworth, but didn't show the entire state of Washington.  Finally, about 3 hours later we stopped for gas, and I went inside and asked the clerk where Leavenworth was.  The bad news - Leavenworth was half way across Washington.  The good news, there are absolutely gorgeous scenes along the way.  And Leavenworth is one of the best places I've visited on a roadtrip.

CONGRATULATIONS on having this blog FEATURED in the Photos group!  And thanks for the memories!

I usually make it up to Leavenworth and really enjoy it.  I didn't think there'd be snow there this year so we passed.

Kerrie, I saw "Leavenworth" and thought immediately of Leavenworth, Kansas where the main attraction is a huge federal penetentiary.  Hmmm.  Not the same place!

It's always fun to read your blogs and see where the AR insiders hang out.  I didn't know there were two Leavenworth's either and yes we would bail you out if they put you in the prison.  You could help me with my site placement while you were waiting for your trial.

Cool photo! I have not been to Leavenworth, Washington maybe we will put that on the list. We know Seattle pretty well. :-)

Myrl - That's too funny; yes it's a bit of a drive from Seattle but the mountain views are worth it.  My favorite time to go is for Oktoberfest and the fall leaves are captivating.

Laura - Merry Christmas to you too love!

Ceil - Sure was!

Nick - If you were there I'd find you in it!

Paul - The lady said they brought it in so the kids could sled down the hill.  Ha!

Cindy - Merry Christmas hun!

Pat - Everyone is saying that.  I don't ever want to go there!!!

Miss Rome -  I had two pairs of socks, gloves, sweaters, a hat...I was bundled!

Doug - Thanks buddy!

Eileen - It's worth it!

Hi Kerrie, Leavenworth is such a cute little town. A girl friend of mine and I went one time for a weekend just to shop! Our husbands were glad we excluded them that weekend and so were we as I think we hit every store there! It looks beautiful all lit up!

Kerrie, too beautiful. What a fun thing to do. David grew up in Spokane but in our visits up there I never made it to Leavenworth. David remembers it well and says it is well worth seeing....we'll have to come back. Happy Holidays! Enjoy your time off! You so deserve it!
