Kerrie's Blog: 5,000 Points Could Be Yours!

5,000 Points Could Be Yours!

I have Google alerts set up for everything ActiveRain and actually come across quite a few of your posts I may have missed otherwise.  Today I came across one from Florida Realtors® News and Events talking about our latest Predictions by the Pros and thought, how cool!  This one from the Dallas Morning News did as well so it got me thinking....I bet all the 'Rainers could get picked up by their favorite news outlet.  I know it happens all the time already; some of you have even been asked to guest blog for your your local papers as well as other opportunities.

The Real Estate Recovery or Not infographic is making the rounds. People like to see information displayed this way and since you're the professionals they're interested to see the pros and cons of our survey results.  Some will disagree entirely and others nod their heads in agreement.

I'm willing to give anyone 5,000 points if you can get a news outlet to pick up on the Real Estate Recovery or Not Infographic.

RULES

5000 points for any news outlet to mention the Real Estate Recovery or Not post, information or infographic.
While I urge you to spread it everywhere, the 5K is a one time shot
You must write a post about your news success with a link included to the news outlet where we can find the mention; then include a link to your blog post in the comments on this post.
Contest ends midnight March 31st.

Not only will this be good for AR (check out why straight from Nikesh's mouth), for you and your results, but also because you never know what kind of eyes you may get in front of.  Pat Kennedy has a gig with the Washington Post.  Craig Schiller was even picked up by NBC...twice!  Good luck to you all who choose to participate!!

Kathy - :)

Marianne - Congrats on being the voice in your area, that's great!  The 5K points are for any news outlet to mention the Real Estate Recovery or Not post, information or infographic and I don't see a mention in there about it.  Looks like you have connections to make this happen though!  Also, be sure to write a post about it when it does happen and include a link to the news outlet in your post and then leave a comment with a link to your post here so we can all see.

HI Kerrie-Already trying to make it happen.  I am a points ho...I even did a picture with that on your last picture contest lol :)!  Let's see if I can do this.  How fun.  I just noticed I wasn't subscribed so fixing that now.

Hi Kerrie - Thanks for the push - I just sent out a news tip (gets more attention here than a press release) to a couple of our local papers. I hope they pick it up.

Kerrie

I used the imbed code in a draft - I think it looks awfully small for people to read.  Can it be enlarged?

Posted by Margaret Goss, Chicago's North Shore & Winnetka Real Estate (Baird & Warner Real Estate) almost 7 years ago

Kerrie - hmmm I'm going to pass this along to some of our connections and see what happens... Maybe we can get an article from them... I'll keep you posted if anything comes up. After all it wont be the first or last time someone in the media has picked up on our localism posts and interviewed us for an article. That is the beauty of AR and why we love this place.... Cool idea BTW...

I found the infographic extremely useful. I'm sending it out now, let's see if it gains traction...
Posted by Bob Caldwell, VA Mortgage Specialist and Military Relocation Services (Fitzgerald Financial, a Division of Monarch Bank) almost 7 years ago

Margaret - I just checked out your Draft and it looks good to me but you can play with the height and width dimension in the embed code if you wish.  The ones listed are pretty standard for an infographic like this.

Posted by Kerrie La Guardia, Let it Rain! (ActiveRain, Community Manager) almost 7 years ago

Kerrie - I would love 5000 points, but since I am in the Sacramento market and I believe that we are experiencing the beginnings of a true recovery, I don't want to post a graphic that simply spreads more doom and gloom in our area.  I don't know who participated in this survey, but I certainly don't consider ours to be the worst market any more.  We are experiencing multiple offers and sales above listing price, and the hard part is finding enough inventory to go around for all the interested buyers.

Posted by Susan Neal, Fair Oaks CA & Sacramento Area Real Estate Broker (RE/MAX Gold, Fair Oaks) almost 7 years ago

Temptations, temptations, temptations chasing a pile of points. Our area was not included in the graphics, even though we parallel New York with being depressed. Local news outlets are looking for some positives, and we don't really have a lot

Posted by Ed Silva, Central CT Real Estate Broker Serving all equally (RE/MAX Professionals, CT 203-206-0754 ) almost 7 years ago

I'm in NY but Long Island's market is not depressed. A -10% confidence for New York rate tells me those are the agents that are not pusing hard to get business. I know agents in my local market say the same thing but they hardly do any business. If you don't pound the pavement then business stinks for them and they turn around stating the market sucks. We do have pockets of towns where there are more short sales than not but only a few.

I wish they would separate the NY market from Long Island. Makes a huge difference.

I'll run this by a few of our local papers.  I know some folks plus several PR agents.  Since Silicon Valley is leading the way in the national recovery (Palo Alto especially - bastion of Facebook money) I'm sure it'll get picked up.

Hi Kerrie - Although I'm dutifully including the infographic in my market trends post (for Cathy's contest) I don't think it has enough Canadian flavor to attract news media attention. Also, the "Not" part of the graphic is so vivid - and the Vancouver market (where I am) has been a consistently strong market, so the message might not resonate so well.  Great idea for some US markets, tho!

A good post.  Now, can you make suggestions as to how we can get our local media to pick this up.  Do I make up a 'press release' or a 'news tip'?  I'm a nubie on PR.  I perked up when it said 5k points!  I don't see Alaska and Hawaii on the graphics?

Posted by Bruce Hicks, Your Lifetime Friend/Helper! (Best Homes Hawaii) almost 7 years ago

Not sure if I can get picked up but it seems worth a try, thanks Kerrie.

Posted by Al Raymondi, Ormond By The Sea Florida - Home and Condo Sales (Ocean View Realty Group in Ormond By The Sea Florida) almost 7 years ago

Do you think you need to disclose you are doing it for the points? Points if the media picks it up?   I posted it on my WP blog.... about Columbus I went back and forth between saying something at the bottom about this challenge.  Are AR points of value or not?

I do not really need the points...  While I am not sure the Columbus media will pick it up since Columbus did not make the graphic ... not in the top or the bottom and I did not participate in the survey....  I wonder if any of the smaller local papers will pick it up...  It sometimes surprises me when they call for a comment on a market report.

Kerrie, maybe ActiveRain University could start a new class on, "How to get press coverage."  Things like how to write a press release that ties into your blog and how to contact media outlets. I'll bet you have some members with amazing depth in this area.

Posted by Wayne Jackson, North Idaho Realtor, Serving Coeur dnullAlene and Hayden Lake (Lakeshore Realty 208-714-4109) almost 7 years ago

I would love to go for the 5K however there is no mention of the Kansas City Missouri Metro Area on the graphic so I am doubtful that the news media here would find any relevency in the infographic. It is a good inforgraphic however the closest areas to Kansas City that are mentioned here are Springfield, MO and Chicago, IL which both still appear to be experiencing a decline. If you have any ideas, Im open to suggestions.

Posted by Kalene Bagwell, Realtor - Selling Blue Springs - Kansas City Metro (Realty Executives Of Kansas City) almost 7 years ago

Bruce - A press release, contacting local news outlets and sending it to your social circles and networks is a good start.  Try 188PressRelease or FreePressRelease or NewswireToday or PR.com or PRLog.org.  It's about getting it in front of the right eyes and using your words to make sure they don't miss it!

Maureen - You don't need to disclose the contest to the news outlet, unless you want to.  Up to you my dear!

I am quoted in the Gaithersburg section.  This is a positive and very comprehensive article on the real estate market in the area.

When working with news reporters on major articles, it can take some time before publication.  In this case, I was interviewed in March and the article appeared in the May issue of the Washingtonian magazine.
