From the second we landed to the last sunset I was in total appreciation and love. Beautiful little plumera flowers dusted the roads and the water was teal, warm and inviting.
First stop was Lanikai in Oahu where we rented a little vrbo from a nice old lady named Dottie. The Moke Islands were right outside our doorstep along with hiking trails, running loops and beach access. A quick drive into Kailua brought coffee shops and other stores. No hotels on this side of the island....just beauty. We were there for a wedding so many friends were in town and our days on Oahu were filled with BBQs and Beach Days and exploring. One night we drove into Honolulu to enjoy the Friday night firework show on Waikiki Beach. The wedding was in Diamond Head and the bride being from Hawaii didn't want any Hawaiian flare so it was an outdoor wedding transformed into an Italian villa. Amazingly beautiful.
After 5 days on the beautiful island of Oahu we hopped over to Maui and stayed at the Makena Resort just south of Kihei. Ahhhh, room service, pools, cabanas, beach access, beautiful breakfast buffet, koi fish pond, state of the art gym, open reception, alohas here and alohas there. Everyone was all smiles.
Highlights of the trip:
- The bluest, cleanest, warmest, tealest water
- The warm white sand between my toes
- Ocean front couples massages
- Firework show
- Lovely wedding
- Snorkeling in Molokini
- Snorkeling with sea turtles
- Road to Hana
- Hiking through Bamboo forests to a huge waterfall
- Hiking Pillboxes
But the very best was being with my beautiful fiance, no laptop and leaving all our worries on the Mainland. It was a wonderful trip and I can't wait to go back again one day.
