Kerrie's Blog: Keeping it Fresh with Mitchell Hall

Keeping it Fresh with Mitchell Hall

This week's Keeping it Fresh is brought to you by Mitchell Hall.

How long have you been in business?
11 years.

What outfit do you own that makes you feel invincible?
Anything that fits. My style has evolved since I'm older and wiser. My confidence comes from within not from an outfit. If I'm comfortable and relaxed I feel invincible. A few years ago after gaining 40+ pounds I donated my entire wardrobe to Housing Works. I started fresh with the basics. A grey suit, navy blazer, grey pants. I've since lost most of the weight but I'm no longer altered by an outfit.

What is the biggest fashion faux pas you've made?
Since I dress conservative - my favorite colors are navy blue, black and different shades of gray I rarely make a fashion faux pas. The biggest one I remember was a Halloween costume party. The invitation said must wear costume. I followed instructions (I hate costumes) and wore a costume. Most of the other guests were not wearing costumes. I felt uncomfortable so I went home and changed, came back and enjoyed the party.

What celebrity is your style doppleganger?
Giorgio Armani. I've been wearing Armani suits and clothes since the 80's. I always feel relaxed yet luxurious in Armani. Understated elegance, simplicity and comfort. His favorite work outfit is also mine. A navy blue jacket and grey pants. I think he looks great at 78.

Best fashion advice?
Be yourself, be comfortable, keep it simple. When in doubt dress conservative. Classic and traditional never go out of style and always looks professional.

Mitchell does reflect the epitome of professionalism.  And don't you hate that Halloween example.  I wonder how many times that has happened to people.

Many real estate agents do not realize that they are removed from consideration because of their appearance.  Very casual dress is not the best way to impress prospective clients.

Even when Mitchell and I recently met for lunch in NYC and he was dressed casually, he looked good!

Kerrie, Thank you. I forgot about this, it made my day.

Jane, I will never follow an invitation again for a costume party again. Black tie OK I'll wear one.

Tatyana, Thank you.

Dorie, Thanks, You never know when I client will walk in or you have to show a home.

Pippa, LOL My birtday was last week not as old as Armani yet.

Brad, Thanks you rock too.

Roy, I don't care how a buyer or seller dresses but when an agent shows up to one of my listings dressed very casual. Shorts , jeans, sneakers I don't take them or their buyer seriously.

Peggy, Thanks, you looked great too.

Ginny, Thank you.

John, Real Estate is local. I'm on the West side of Manhattan, we dress much more casual (business casual) than our office on the east side they're always in jacket and tie, so I'm sure out west in Albuquerue you have a business style.

Margaret, Thanks and thank you for call Mitchell Hall. I have a new phone number from google voice 347-921-HALL

Women don't have it quite so easy. If I know I have to be gone all day and probably to a function in the early evening, I may take a couple of changes of shoes (low and higher heel) and different accessories with me. The basic outfit has to be neutral and tailored for me. St. John Knits are my favorite.

Hi Kerrie. I was lucky enough to meet Mitchell in NY and we decided we were kindred spirits. Mitchell is natural, smart and approachable: all in all a joy to know.

I stopped wearing a suit and tie about 4 years ago. Showing so many bank owned homes and stuff, it's easier to wear dress pants and a polo or dress shirt. More comfy, too.

Although I'm sure that the clothes he chooses to wear enhance him, I doubt they truly alter Mitchell, the man one bit.  When I think Mitchell Hall, I think class, intelligence, and professionalism.   That comes from deep within the man ... not what package he wraps himself in.

I think you can dress business causal and impress a potential client....now sloppy causal that is a whole story unto itself... I love suits...use to wear them all the time. But folks we are in Texas and it is hotter than hell down here. If I was up north it would be suits more often but you mix 100% humidity and 105 degree heat, well your clothes could catch on fire!

Mitchelll has such style...in his dress, his demeanor and his posts. While I have never met him we have followed each other on-line for quite some time - I consider him a friend, respect all that he says, and would refer a client to him for NYC in a heartbeat.

What a gentleman!

Mitchell does offer some great advice about work attire. It is so much easier for a man, just throw on a crisp shirt & tie & they are done. For women it is more of a challenge & I think the most appropriate thing they can do is just make sure they dress age appropriate & stick to classics.
